Kinetik’s High-Yield Dividend Could Get Even Bigger as Energy Prices Surge
Kinetik Holdings is attracting growing attention from income-focused investors as higher oil and natural gas prices create the potential for stronger cash flows and larger shareholder payouts. The Houston-based midstream energy company already offers one of the more generous dividends in its industry, and its distribution could accelerate further if energy prices remain elevated.
Kinetik currently has a dividend yield of roughly 6.3%, considerably higher than many other midstream energy companies. Its shares have also gained about 26% so far in 2026 as investors have returned to energy-related stocks amid a sharp increase in commodity prices.
The company operates primarily in the Permian Basin, one of the most important oil and natural gas-producing regions in the United States. Kinetik was originally established as EagleClaw Midstream in 2012 and expanded significantly through acquisitions. A major turning point came with the combination of EagleClaw and Altus Midstream, which helped establish Kinetik as the largest publicly traded midstream company serving the Delaware Basin, the western portion of the Permian.
Most traders don’t need more options ideas. They need a faster way to decide which trades are actually worth their time and capital. On Wednesday, September 23 at 4:00 ET, former CBOE floor trader Jay Soloff is showing his structured process for narrowing thousands of choices down to one potential weekly options income trade.
You’ll see what Jay checks before entry, how he looks at risk, how he chooses the strike and expiration, and what he plans for after the trade is placed. The goal isn’t to trade more… it’s to have a repeatable process instead of staring at charts for hours.
What makes Kinetik particularly interesting is its greater exposure to upstream activity compared with larger midstream operators such as Kinder Morgan and Enterprise Products Partners. Rather than relying primarily on long-distance pipeline transportation, Kinetik provides services including natural gas and oil gathering, processing, storage, and water handling and disposal.
That positioning could become increasingly valuable when energy producers increase drilling activity. Higher oil and gas prices can encourage producers to bring additional wells online, potentially increasing demand for the infrastructure and services Kinetik provides.
The recent surge in commodity prices has strengthened that outlook. Oil prices moved sharply higher amid geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran, while U.S. natural gas futures also posted significant gains. WTI crude rose above $100 a barrel some days ago, creating a potentially favorable environment for companies tied to domestic energy production.
However, the company's future performance will depend partly on how long elevated energy prices last. A resolution to the geopolitical conflict could reduce some of the immediate pressure on global energy markets. Even so, investors may continue assigning a higher geopolitical premium to oil and natural gas prices if concerns about global supply disruptions persist.
Kinetik's dividend story may be even more compelling than its current yield. Before the latest energy-price surge, management had already outlined plans to increase the dividend by approximately 3% to 5% annually until the company's dividend coverage ratio reaches 1.6 times.
The coverage ratio is an important measure for dividend investors because it indicates how comfortably a company's earnings can support its payout. Kinetik's ratio was around 1.2 times, meaning earnings provided roughly 20% more coverage than the amount required to fund its dividend.
Management expects that figure to improve throughout 2026, potentially reaching approximately 1.5 times by the end of the year. Once the company reaches its targeted coverage level, dividend growth is expected to become more closely linked to earnings growth.
That creates the possibility of faster dividend increases in the years ahead. If cash flows continue improving, investors could eventually see the company move beyond its planned 3% to 5% annual increases.
Wall Street is also becoming more optimistic about Kinetik. Raymond James upgraded the stock to outperform and described it as an attractive total-return opportunity. The firm also suggested that Kinetik could become a potential acquisition target for larger midstream companies looking to expand their presence in the Permian Basin.
Jefferies has similarly taken a positive view, arguing that the shares appeared undervalued under its base-case assumptions. Analyst sentiment is notably strong, with the stock carrying multiple buy ratings and no sell ratings among the analysts cited in the report.
For income investors, Kinetik therefore presents an unusual combination of a high current yield, potential dividend growth and exposure to a strong U.S. energy-producing region. Still, the stock carries risks, particularly those associated with commodity prices, geopolitical developments, interest rates and the company's ability to maintain growing cash flows.
If energy prices remain elevated and production activity increases, Kinetik could have an opportunity to strengthen both its earnings and its dividend. That combination is making the company increasingly interesting to investors looking for income with the potential for additional growth.
