Overlooked Dividend Payers Offer Attractive Income as AI Hype Dominates Markets
In a market still heavily concentrated in mega-cap technology names, investors searching for reliable income and diversification may find better opportunities outside the spotlight. However, there are several “overlooked gems” that combine solid business fundamentals with attractive yields.
We have funds like the ClearBridge Dividend Strategy Fund (SOPAX) and Franklin ClearBridge Enhanced Income ETF (YLDE)—currently yielding around 1.9–2.1%, well above the S&P 500’s roughly 1% yield, even as they have lagged the broader index slightly year-to-date amid the AI-driven rally.
Stocks have remained volatile through the summer of 2026, with artificial-intelligence companies swinging on shifting views of infrastructure spending.
Treasury yields have also pressured equities, though the S&P 500 recently hit a fresh record near 7,799. However, prolonged periods of narrow market leadership often give way to broader participation, environments in which dividend-growth portfolios historically perform well. We do not expect an immediate rotation out of technology and still owns selected AI-related names, but we cannot neglect the importance of awareness of concentration risk and the value of diversification.
A funded trading account sounds great. Trade with firm capital. Keep most of the profits. Don’t put a huge pile of your own money at risk. That gets traders excited fast.
But getting funded is only part of the game. You still need to understand the rules, the risk limits, and how to keep the account once you have it. The trading workshop walks through the prop firm model in plain English so you don’t step into this world blind.
Why Dividend Strategies May Shine Next
Historical patterns show that momentum-driven, concentrated markets eventually broaden. When that happens, high-quality companies with consistent dividend growth tend to attract renewed attention.
This approach focuses on businesses with strong balance sheets, durable competitive advantages, and the ability to raise dividends over time.
In the current environment, experts sees two categories of opportunity: “pedestrian” high-quality companies that trade at reasonable valuations and “tangential” names temporarily discounted because of AI disruption fears.
Williams Companies: Powering the AI Energy Boom
As of recent filings it ranked as the largest or second-largest position in the strategy, around 4–4.5%. The stock yields approximately 2.9–3.0% and has delivered solid year-to-date gains of roughly 18–20%.
Williams benefits from long-term growth in U.S. natural-gas production driven by the shale renaissance and, more recently, surging power demand from data centers and AI infrastructure. Unlike pure commodity producers, the company is less sensitive to short-term price swings because much of its revenue comes from fee-based transportation and midstream services. It has also developed custom power solutions for large energy users. We cannot neglect the firm’s healthy balance sheet, growing earnings and cash flow, and multi-year growth runway tied to data-center power needs. Analysts on average rate the shares overweight with meaningful upside to price targets. Recent results have shown rising adjusted EBITDA and strong dividend coverage, reinforcing the case for continued income growth.
Unilever: Steady Growth in Consumer Staples
Another name is Unilever (UL), the global consumer-staples giant behind brands such as Dove and Hellmann’s. It yields roughly 3.3–3.5% and represents about 2.5–2.7% of the ClearBridge Dividend Strategy portfolio. Shares have been roughly flat year-to-date, leaving the valuation relatively attractive compared with some peers.
Recent half-year results showed underlying sales growth near 4.8%, with volume contributing the majority and an acceleration in the second quarter. Management has upgraded full-year guidance and continues to return capital through dividends and share buybacks. The company’s diversified global footprint, strong brands, and improving operating margins provide defensive characteristics that appeal to income-oriented investors seeking stability amid market swings.
Automatic Data Processing: Mission-Critical Resilience
Automatic Data Processing (ADP) rounds out the trio. The payroll and human-capital management provider yields about 2.4% and has rebounded after an earlier pullback. It accounts for roughly 2.3% of the strategy. Experts argue that payroll processing is among the least likely business processes to be fully disintermediated by artificial intelligence because of its mission-critical nature and regulatory complexity.
ADP has a long record of dividend increases—more than 50 consecutive years—and continues to generate strong free cash flow that supports both payouts and reinvestment. The company is integrating AI tools into its own platforms to improve client service rather than viewing the technology solely as a threat. Client retention remains high, and management has guided for continued mid-to-high single-digit revenue growth and solid earnings expansion. Analysts generally rate the stock a hold with limited near-term upside, yet some see the valuation as reasonable for a high-quality compounder with defensive characteristics.
Building Resilience Through Diversification
Investors should not ignore concentration risk simply because the current leadership has worked so far. High-quality dividend payers outside the narrow AI spotlight can provide both current income and potential capital appreciation when market breadth eventually improves. Other notable holdings in the strategy include energy major ExxonMobil, technology names Microsoft and Alphabet, alternative-asset manager Apollo Global Management, and insurance broker Marsh & McLennan—illustrating a mix of growth, defensiveness, and income.
For investors seeking yield and ballast in a still-concentrated market, these overlooked names offer a practical starting point. As always, individual circumstances, risk tolerance, and time horizon should guide any portfolio decisions, and professional advice is recommended before acting.
